Dorcas House

Dorcas House

The Dorcas House is a benevolent program of the Hampton Church of Christ.  This program was started by the Nash Church of Christ in 1987. It started in a small room behind the baptistery with only clothing. It became too much for that small area and a metal building was built behind the church building in 1997 to handle the increase in clothing and a small amount of food.

The program continued to grow, and an addition had to be made to the original building. One side of the building handles clothing and the other side food.  The Dorcas House is open every Thursday from 10 am to 1:30 pm and is operated by volunteers from the congregation. New clients should arrive no later than 1:15 pm in order to fill out the necessary paperwork.

On Thursdays, ladies sort clothing and assist clients in finding clothing. On the food side, shelves are stocked, and boxes are filled to complete the food requests. We purchase some food locally, but most is purchased from East Texas Food Bank, Bill and Ralph’s, and Harvest of Texarkana.

Those in need can come once a month to get food and clothing.
